A Plan to Change?

January 21, 2018

It has been said that most people fail to change because they fail to make a plan to change.

And many people actually believe that's why they failed to change in the past.

But, as someone who has thoroughly researched this subject; and incorporated and strategized radical change in myself, and in others and for a living for over two decades; it’s my experience that most of us fail to change because the discomfort required to take us to where we could be in our lives exceeds the discomfort of where we currently are.

Discomfort with present circumstances is the greatest catalyst for change.

But it is ONLY a catalyst; and is reactionary, at best.

Very few even seek “change” before all hell breaks loose, and the shit hits the fan.

Fewer of us will make any positive change permanent, because we will only attempt to stop or change behavior; instead of spending continual and brutally honest time digging into ourselves, and addressing the “why,” of the human needs we have, and how we have chosen to meet them; and then diligently rewiring the thoughts and feelings which have driven our actions to meet those basic human needs for possibly our entire lives.

THIS is an incredibly uncomfortable process, folks. And, it is one very few will attempt, or continually address, before and during the follow-through required in any consistent actions related to a “plan.”

Fewer still, only a minuscule percentage, rock our own internal boats on PURPOSE, and strive for change because we want to expand, create excellence in and around us, and reach a higher level of thought, feeling and actions for ourselves, and ultimately, for others.

Plans and circumstances change. If the honest internal reckonings and homework aren’t applied and performed consistently, the best laid plans won’t be adhered to in the course of the long run.

Yes, plans are good; but are among the least integral of any process for lasting and profound internal change.
