The Need for Coaching

If you have not heard this EXCELLENT TED talk, check it right HERE: I’ve been “coached” multiple times throughout my life, in many different ways. It continues, in fact. And, I’ve acted as “coach” for others, for many years. Personally? I don’t really like the word “coach;” because anyone, regardless of education or experience, can call themselves one. And, it sometimes puts those of us who have invested thousands of dollars and thousands of hours in our own coaching, education and experience on the same field as those with NONE; at least, in the eyes of some who could really USE one. However, there are fundamentals. And then, there is DEVELOPMENT and EXCELLENCE. One would not hire a pee-wee league football coach for a Division I College team, and expect to win at that level. EXCELLENT coaching is WAY more than calling the fundamental plays from the sideline of a field you may or may not have ever played. It’s about recognizing, with laser precision, where improvements or changes can be made. It’s knowing the all-important WHY. It’s creating better, more productive ways of thinking, feeling, acting and reacting. And it’s incorporating solid strategies, to ensure markedly better outcomes for your “player.” How can a great coach KNOW how to take their players to their pinnacle? Because they’ve been there, on the field, themselves; AND they had the excellent instincts to know when and where and WHY they needed their own help, AND they had the bravery to admit they did not know it all in an area, AND they had the willingness to get help from an experienced and knowledgeable outside source, AND they had the drive and determination to stick with it as long as it takes in order to be the best in their own games, FIRST. Watch what a world class surgeon (yes, even surgeons hire them) has to say about what hiring a “coach” did for HIM, and for many other experts in their own fields. People think they can’t afford the time, effort or money for an excellent coach to help them raise their personal games. But, can we really afford NOT to? ~ Dawn Read HIRE A PRO Dawn Read has assisted individuals toward a better life for over two decades.
